Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road
Twenty-First Century Silk Road
The "Silk Road Economic Belt" and "21st Century Maritime Silk Road" is a new initiative by the Chinese Government to bolster trade across Asia, Europe and Africa. Whereas the "Maritime Silk Road" passes from Southern China through Western Asia, the Middle East and East Africa, the "Silk Road Economic Belt" transits through Northwestern China and Central Asia to reach Turkey and, ultimately, Continental Europe.
Although the vast "Silk Road Economic Belt" is anchored in Central Asia, the project is frequently referred to as a trade and tourism-building partnership between China and Continental Europe.

USA Silk Road
From Silk Road to Gas Road
Under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, the Chinese Government established the "Silk Road Fund" to "...expand strategic trust through more opening up and connectivity." The fund entails a US$40 billion commitment on the part of China to improve connectivity between China and Central Asia.
The Fund will support both "hard" and "soft" infrastructure. As President Xi announced at the Partner Dialogue: "Connectivity doesn’t just mean building bridges and roads. These are two dimensional links, single line connections. We must also have three dimensional connections, like infrastructure, institutional improvements, and people to people exchanges. We must advance Connectivity side by side, in five different areas: They are the coordination of policies, the connection of facilities unblocking trade, the free flow of capital, and people-to-people communication."

Movement of Emergency Management Agencies within the Governments of the Newly Independent States
Emergency Management in the Post-Soviet Era
This is a chart depicting the movement of devoted emergency management bureaus within the government structures of the former Soviet states during independence. The bars are colored by region. Transparency indicates the presence of a legal framework without the actual establishment of the agency itself.
Note that data is incomplete for Georgia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. All three have legal precedents and some sort of current organization, but their histories and relationships to other ministries are less well documented in this chart.

<h4>"Sketch of a Middle-European Highway Network"</h4>
Published in "Raumforschung und Raumordnung" - the monthly journal of the Reich's Society for Spatial Science, and the prestige venue for exhibiting the Reich's plans for the "East" - this sketch shows the proposed extension of the <em>Reichsautobahn</em> network into Central and Eastern Europe. The network was to stretch to Saint Petersburg and Moscow, to the Black See, to Istanbul, and all throughout the Balkan Peninsula to Athens. The network was to facilitate the German expansion to the new Eastern Lebensraum, making the <em>Reichsautobahn</em> an active agent of colonization.

Reichsautobahn Construction Started
On 23 September 1933 the construction of the Reichsautobahn started south of Frankfurt. Hitler himself took a shovel to make the first dig. The planned pace was to construct around 800 miles of highways every year, for the overall projected length of the network of 4000 miles.
