Title

Photo Collage with Architectural drawing of the Red Square facing southeast, designer unknown, circa 1934.

Subject

Red Square, future, Stalin's plan

Description

The newly emerging Russian state had begun searching for its civic identity. Under Stalin, a singular vision was beginning to form and is evident in the 1935 central plan of Moscow. Moscow was to become an international metropolis and the crown jewel of the only socialist state in the world. In a series of unrealized projects, this is a rendering from one of the many architectual competitions in the 1930s reimagining and creation of a cohesive architectural style, 'Socialist Realism'.
