BIO:

Faith Hillis is the author of Children of Rus: Right-Bank Ukraine and the Invention of a Russian Nation (Cornell University Press, 2013), as well as several articles and essays. During her tenure at the Davis Center, she will be working on her second project, entitled “Europe's Russian Colonies: Community, Politics, and Modernity Across Borders.” A synthetic history of human and intellectual traffic between the Russian empire and central and western Europe over the long nineteenth century, this project reconstructs the internal lives of the continent's Russian émigré communities and traces their influence on European politics and culture. Hillis' research has been funded by ACLS, the Mellon Foundation, NCEEER, IREX, and the Fulbright program, among others.
